Mythology myths and morals
Greek mythology has many different tales and stories. A majority of the stories center around hubris and pride. Those stories usually relate to how no one can best a god. If anyone were to best a god or challenge one, they would be punished terribly. One story that I learned about is Athena and Arachne. Arachne was a human who took pride in their weaving skills. She challenged Athena to a weaving contest. Athena was angered by Arachne's perfect weaving skills and punished Arachne by turning her into a monstrous spider. Another story relating to pride is that of Eurydice and Orpheus. They were lovers and Eurydice was Orpheus muse. Eurydice died and Orpheus went to the underworld to rescue her. Orpheus was able to make a deal with Hades, god of the underworld. The deal was that Orpheus couldn't turn around to look at Eurydice as they escaped. Of course right before they exited he looked, trapping both of them in the underworld. The moral being that no one is able to cheat death or revive anyone from the dead.
A more well known story is that of Achilles. A prophecy was issued to Achilles' mother about her son. The fates said that Achilles would be a great warrior but die young in the city of Troy. Achilles' mother was paranoid and dipped him in the river Styx by his heel when Achilles was a baby. Achilles grew up and the Trojan war began. After some shenanigans, Achilles ends up in the war and specifically in Troy. He was a great warrior and was a key asset to winning the war. During a battle however Achilles was struck in his ankle by a stray ankle. Since that's the part his mother dipped him in, it was his weak spot and was killed. The moral being that no one is invincible.
